Breast Lift Procedure Description:
Over time, gravity pulls all body tissues downward and the breasts are no exception. Breast Lift augmentation or ‘Mastopexy’ procedure helps to lift and reshape the breasts giving them a more aesthetic and natural shape without reducing their size.
There are several different types of Breast Lift augmentation approaches. The variant appropriate for you will be determined at the time of your pre-operative consultation with Dr. Klainer. The three most common types of breast lift incisions are around the areola only, around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease, and around the areola vertically down from the areola to the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease.
The appropriate breast lift choice for you will be determined based upon your breast size and shape, the size and position of your areolas, the degree of breast sagging, skin quality and elasticity as well as the amount of extra skin. After Dr. Klainer makes the breast lift incisions, the underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to enhance your breast contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful looking height and excess breast skin is removed to compensate for a loss of elasticity.
After the breast lift incisions are closed, some incision lines resulting from the breast lift surgery are concealed in natural bodily contours. However, others may inevitably remain visible on the breast surface. In most cases these lines will fade and significantly improve over time. Dissolvable sutures are used to close the skin.

Breast Lift Downtime & Discomfort:
Before your Breast Lift surgery and for your safety, Dr. Klainer may required you to undergo lab tests or a medical evaluation. Depending on your particular situation, new medications may need to be introduced or your current medications may need to be adjusted. All breast lift augmentation patients are asked to stop smoking well before surgery and avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements. These items have been known to increase bleeding. Dr. Klainer will fully discuss the do's and don'ts of breast lift augmentation, as well as the type of anesthesia that will be used at your pre-op consultation.
Upon completion of your breast lift augmentation surgery dressings or bandages will be applied to the surgery site. You will be required to wear an elastic bandage or support bra to minimize swelling and support your breasts as they heal. In most instances normal activities will be curtailed for approximately one week. Light activities, like driving, can commence during the second week after your breast lift surgery. Although every breast lift augmentation surgery varies, most patients can resume normal activities, including vigorous exercise, in the third week after surgery. After one month, scarring from the breast lift augmentation will still be noticeable, however in the coming months and years they will gradually fade to its permanent appearance.
Discomfort levels resulting from Breast Lift surgery can be significant. Most discomfort is manageable with medication and sensible post-op care. Do not hesitate to contact Dr. Klainer should any problems arise. Breast lift augmentation has a post-surgical recovery period of 24 to 48 hours. After that, there is an expected reduced-activity period of a few days. Breast lift augmentation patients can likely experience soreness and swelling for a few weeks during recovery.

Breast Lift Augmentation FAQ:
Q: Where is the breast lift augmentation performed?
A: The procedure is performed at Fair Oaks Hospital. It is usually done on an outpatient basis but may require an overnight stay if combined with other procedures.
Q: Will ptosis (=sagging) return?
A: Over time gravity will likely cause recurrence of the problem, although this is generally less severe then pre-surgery condition. It can often be repaired through additional breast lift surgery.
Q: Can breast size be increased at the same time?
A: Yes. Often placement of breast implants improves upper pole projection as well as decreases the number of incisions required for the breast lift.
